WOMAN EMPOWERMENT, FORMATION OF SHGS &
IMPARTING THEM IN VARIOUS SKILL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES...

Various studies, as well as our experience, have shown that when we help women and empower them, the whole society benefits. Their families are healthier, children go to school, income levels improve and communities become more prosperous. But unfortunately in India, far from being empowered, most women are denied even their basic rights like health, education, employment and a respectable status in society.

According to UNDP Human Development Report (2009), 88% of pregnant women (age 15-49) were found to be suffering from anaemia. India has a dangerously imbalanced sex ratio, the chief reason being female infanticides and sex-selective abortions. According to UNICEF’s “State of the World’s Children-2009” report, 47% of India's women aged 20–24 were married before the legal age of 18.

Women in India have always faced discrimination in many spheres of their lives, health being one of the prominent one. We are in the process to conduct a programme, aimed at ensuring improved health seeking behavior for women with a focus on reproductive health and menstrual hygiene through training and other information, education and communication (IEC) tools.

TS has taken an initiative to form Self Help Group (SHG) with Rural Womens... Because we strongly believe that SHGs are the backbone of any community...SHG women themselves take up several social Awareness programmes, a first step towards a healthy living..Woman of SHGs meet every week in their place : indeed a weekly school for the women to interact and learn...Imparting skills to the women to start Income generating activities which in turn enable them to engage in economic activities like Hand embrodery, Tailoring, Candle making, Brush making, Paper Plate & Cup making, Spice manufacturing etc.
