History of the Organization

In 2009, Tamas Society was registered as an NGO under the West Bengal Society Registration Act 1961. The Society started with organizing Health Check-ups and Awareness Camps in the hard-to-reach areas of Hooghly District. The camp was organized at Bansberia New Boy’s Club where a General Health Check up camp comprising Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, ECG, Hepatitis B vaccination, Eye Testing as well as finding out Cataract patient and operating them successfully. We made sure that the entire programme would be done completely at free of cost. The camp was first of its kind and was supported by the people who needed it the most. Consequently, we supported another major programme called the “Nutritious Meal Programme” for extremely underprivileged slum children aged 5-14 years at Chetla Lock Gate of 82 ward in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The project supports remedial teaching of 100 children alongside nutritious meal to ensure quality education and healthy life for all children coming to the centre. This project is being supported by SBI Foundation.
